The company has announced Stream Recording and Rewind for AirData Live Streaming — a three-capability update that introduces cloud-side buffering, on-demand playback within an active mission, and post-flight stream archiving. The feature set is aimed squarely at enterprise drone programs where geographic separation between the pilot, the aircraft, and the commanding decision-maker is the operational norm rather than the exception.
Three Capabilities, One Workflow
The centrepiece of the release is the 10-minute Rewind. Authorized viewers who join an active livestream late can immediately scrub back through up to the previous ten minutes of footage, then return to the live feed — all without any interruption to the ongoing mission or to other simultaneous viewers.
The second capability, Stream Recording, saves live streams directly to the operator's AirData account for post-flight playback and review. This creates a cloud-held copy of mission video that is independent of the aircraft's onboard storage — an important redundancy consideration as operations move farther from the traditional visual-line-of-sight model.
The third capability addresses a practical gap that enterprise teams have long encountered: important events that begin before anyone thinks to start recording. If a recording is initiated after an event has already unfolded, AirData can reach back and include up to the previous 10 minutes in the saved file, preserving the lead-up to the incident rather than only what followed it.
Protocol-Agnostic Architecture
The system is not confined to the AirData mobile app. The recording and rewind workflow also supports incoming RTMP, RTSP, and SRT video streams, meaning organisations running mixed fleets, dock-based autonomous systems, or third-party streaming hardware can apply the same capabilities across their entire operations without being locked into a single drone ecosystem.
Eran Steiner, founder and CEO of AirData, summed up the design intent: "In a live operation, the most important moment does not wait for the right person to start recording." The goal, he added, was to let teams look back while a mission is still active, preserve a secondary copy of footage off the aircraft, and do so across any drone brand, dock, or flight app already in use.
Early Adopters
Huntsville Police Department in Alabama is already using the new capabilities in its DFR programme. Chad Tillman, the department's UAS Coordinator, noted that analysts are now able to pause, rewind, zoom, and capture critical details that may have been missed as events unfold during a live mission — a workflow shift that reduces reliance on verbal recaps or post-flight-only review.
For utility and infrastructure teams, the impact is similarly operational: a remote engineer who joins a stream after a drone has passed a point of interest can review that footage immediately, rather than asking the pilot to reposition the aircraft or waiting until after landing to check onboard video.

Stream Recording and Rewind is available immediately to existing AirData Live Streaming customers. AirData's platform already serves more than 370,000 users and processes an average of 25,000 flights per day across more than 200 countries.

The platform's existing Dynamic Multiview Player, which automatically aggregates multiple concurrent drone feeds into a single interface, remains in place alongside the new recording and rewind layer.

For operators and programme managers, the update reduces a structural vulnerability in distributed drone operations: the gap between when something happens and when the right person sees it. DFR dispatchers, infrastructure inspection leads, and BVLOS remote commanders all gain the ability to self-serve video context without interrupting the crew in the field.
For regulators and compliance teams, the timing is noteworthy. The FAA's forthcoming Part 108 framework for routine BVLOS operations is expected to impose detailed recordkeeping requirements covering flights, aircraft, personnel, maintenance, and training. Cloud-recorded mission video, stored alongside AirData's existing operational data, represents a natural fit for that evidentiary chain — and positions operators to build compliance-ready video archives before formal rules are finalised.
For platform integrators and mixed-fleet operators, the RTMP/RTSP/SRT protocol support is the headline technical detail. By not requiring AirData's own mobile app as the video source, the feature is compatible with dock-based systems (such as those using DJI FlightHub 2 RTMP forwarding), purpose-built remote-ID compliant aircraft, and any third-party encoder that speaks a standard streaming protocol. That vendor-neutral architecture reinforces AirData's positioning as a data layer that sits across an operator's entire fleet rather than being tied to a single manufacturer's ecosystem.
For the broader enterprise drone software market, the move reflects a maturing expectation: that drone video is operational data, not just footage, and should be managed with the same rigour — redundancy, access control, audit trails — applied to flight logs and maintenance records. Competitors building or bundling live video capabilities will need to address the same distributed-team problem that AirData is now formally solving.
