Canadian integrator Infinit Drones has launched the Dock M400, the first purpose-built autonomous docking station for the DJI Matrice 400 — a heavy-lift enterprise aircraft that DJI's own dock ecosystem had left without an automated housing. The system offers two configurations — a Charging Edition and a sub-two-minute Battery-Swap Edition — enabling 24/7 crewless operations for infrastructure, public safety, and industrial sectors.

The Gap Between Power and Automation

Since DJI introduced the Matrice 400 in June 2025 as its enterprise flagship, the aircraft has occupied a category of its own in the heavy-lift segment. With a 59-minute flight time, a 6 kg maximum payload capacity, and an obstacle-sensing suite combining rotating LiDAR and six-direction mmWave radar, the M400 was engineered for demanding missions where smaller platforms simply couldn't keep up.

But one significant operational gap has persisted. DJI's own dock ecosystem — centred around the Dock 3 — does not support the Matrice 400. The Dock 3 pairs with lighter platforms in the Matrice 3TD, 4D, and 4TD family, leaving the M400 squarely in the category of manually piloted, crew-dependent aircraft. Operators who needed heavy-lift capability with LiDAR, thermal, or high-zoom payloads had to keep personnel on-site. Those who wanted fully autonomous dock-based deployment had to accept a smaller, less capable aircraft. DJI had, however, reserved ports on the M400 hardware to support third-party development of automated recharging stations — a deliberate signal that the dock gap was an opportunity for the ecosystem.

What the Dock M400 Does

The Dock M400 is an enterprise-grade autonomous docking solution designed exclusively for the DJI Matrice 400. At its core, the system enables fully automated takeoff, landing, battery management, and remote mission execution — targeting continuous 24/7 operations with minimal human intervention.

Infinit Drones has structured the product around two distinct configurations to accommodate different operational tempos. The Charging Edition delivers rapid battery charging suited to scheduled mission cycles. The Battery-Swap Edition goes further, automatically replacing batteries in approximately two minutes — a capability that, paired with the M400's 59-minute endurance, makes near-continuous crewless flight operationally viable.

Beyond power management, the dock is built to function as a self-contained field intelligence node. It integrates an onboard dual-antenna RTK base station supporting BDS, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and SBAS constellations — providing centimetre-level positioning correction directly at the launch site. Dual 1080p full-colour low-light surveillance cameras are built into the dock enclosure itself, giving operators situational awareness of the landing zone independent of the aircraft. The system also incorporates environmental monitoring and live telemetry into its control architecture.

Deployment is designed to be flexible. The dock can be installed as a permanent fixed ground station or mounted on a vehicle — a distinction that materially expands the use-case envelope into mobile infrastructure inspection, emergency response staging, and resource-sector operations.

Software Layer: Flight Control

Infinit Drones has developed a dedicated software platform called Flight Control, built exclusively for Dock M400 operations. The platform consolidates mission planning, live video monitoring, remote control inputs, flight logs, and operational management into a single interface. Enterprise-tier subscriptions include support for ten or more dock licences, custom data storage, unlimited video streaming, and full API and SDK access — an architecture that signals an intent to serve fleet-scale deployments rather than single-unit installations.

Context: An Ecosystem Move DJI Made Space For

The Matrice 400's hardware was not agnostic to third-party dock development. DJI had reserved dedicated ports on the M400 specifically to support automated recharging station products — a design decision that validated the dock category for ecosystem partners. Infinit Drones' Dock M400 is an activation of that opening.

The broader enterprise drone dock market has grown substantially around lighter platforms. With the Dock M400, the heavy-lift tier of that market — until now largely dependent on crewed operations — has a product candidate to test.
